Pretty Little Bullies: Millennials as the Ultimate Haters

America’s Boomers are a controlling bunch for sure. As teens and twenties they shut down their high schools, colleges and public buildings with “sit-ins,” even bombed the Capitol (and elected one of the bomber’s proteges to the presidency no less), to get their way. They screamed, and were protected, under the First Amendment. Some of what they protested was important and good, and many millions of have benefited from their willingness to tell the truth, no matter how painful, particularly in regards to race relations and alcoholism/co-dependency.

Somewhere along the line, however, they lost their way. Or, more accurately, they never actually found their way, into adulthood, that is. While most adults begin to understand how the liberal (i.e. libertine) desires of the young need to stay with the young, Boomers stayed the same, spoiled, mouthy brats they were in 1970. They shout down and drown anyone  who dares suggest an alternative to their hallowed universe. One is not allowed to criticize the holy social gospel of Boomerdom without literally being threatened with jail time. The institutions they protested are now the institutions that give them the power to marginalize and ghettoize: in Congress, in the Presidency, in the bureaucracies, in the mainstream media, in religion,  even in the military (bombs – they like bombs).

Millennials — the children and students of Boomers — naturally do not have a clue how entitled and rude Boomers were, so, understandably, they don’t see how they have been co-opted and corrupted by them. The “make love, not war” generation has left us an ugly legacy: an expectation of entitlement for the loudest voice, in parallel with devolving American culture into one based on emotion, rather than fact or civil consensus. Are we surprised really, to see their children/students also behaving badly, complete with the never-ending act of domestic terrorism called “shutting down the First Amendment?”

You know what I mean … you even breathe before suggesting an additional viewpoint on the Four Gospels (LGBTQ, Planned Parenthood, Free Stuff and College, and Animals are People, Too) and you see the face. You know, the one that says, “Don’t bother to fill out a ‘do not resuscitate’ form. We’ve already done it for you.”

This attitude, of course, cannot stand in America/Amerika. They First Amendment may have lost it’s appeal to Boomers, now that it gets in their way, but some of us are old-fashioned. We want to hear the alternative voices. We are not old. We are not intolerant. We want fresh and esoteric and (gasp!) controversial words and pictures in our public square. We refuse to capitulate to Boomer Puritanism, where everything and everybody they don’t like goes into the stocks for public shaming.

I am, right now, thinking of Josh Weed. No, this has nothing to do with marijuana — that would be old hippie stuff anyway. He is …

Scott Savage, who was harassed so much in his job as a college librarian by his colleagues for merely suggesting a book they didn’t like, he quit. He then lost a discrimination lawsuit because the harassment wasn’t bad enough.

young people who are assaulted and bullied in school because of their skin color.

There are more stories like this, all people stopped by the institutional prison created by Boomers who propagandized an entire generation into becoming the very haters they hate. Millennials are, sadly, the ultimate haters because they will not allow — née, cannot tolerate — disagreement. They love gays, but HATE those who question gay politics or whose religion disagrees with gay marriage. They love animals, and/or fear for the earth, then despise (HATE) those who suggest animals are not on a level with humans, or fight against the tyranny of global “sustainability.” They love their status as “global citizens” (not a real thing), then HATE presidential candidates who point out of the economic disaster of a borderless world.

Be bigger than that.

Boomers were, in part, energized toward change after growing up in homes where the fallout of war permeated their everyday lives. Their fathers came home from Europe or the Pacific theatre of World War II changed. They suffered PTSD long before there was any talk of help. They were alcoholics, they suffered flashbacks, they couldn’t sleep, they limped, were sometimes limbless. They also appreciated home-sweet-home, if they were fortunate enough to return, so they built parks and swimming pools and formed community clubs to make the place they raised their children peaceful and beautiful. They were flawed, but they loved the best they could.

They often felt their children were ungrateful.  Unfortunately they were right, at the most fundamental level. Those flower children who spit on Vietnam draftees, failed — and still fail — to accept and admire the sacrifice that gave them that ability to whine and cry and scream publicly in the first place.

The right to Free Speech is not one to be re-written at will. Every child of American schools know this fact: without the Boomer fathers, we would be speaking German, a language associated with the most hateful historical acts of the West in the 20th century. Do you see the irony?  Boomers who claimed to promote equal rights and “free love,” now exercise the politics of hate their fathers literally killed to stop. Here’s what you might not know: those WWII soldiers were fighting a regime whose first acts were to shut down free speech. One of WWII’s best known martyrs, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was executed by them because he refused to stop speaking out for the German church. Are Boomers executing those with whom they disagree? I would like to say “no,” but, frankly, I don’t actually know. They have passed laws that allow the U.S. government to abduct and retain, without cause, any citizen, for any reason.

So don’t be a Boomer. Be better. Be for Bernie AND the Donald’s right to speak.

Allow speech. Allow dissent. Don’t feel threatened. Don’t control. Promote individual liberty. Learn discernment. Begin with the writings Boomers were forced to read, but would never heed: Thoreau’s Civil Disobedience; Orwell’s 1984; the Bill of Rights.

Oh, and read it in English. (Because you can.)

14 Leadership Secrets Taught By Elite Private Schools

A few years ago I heard a radio show host talk about her time in an elite private high school. Her tuition had been a gift, so at 14 she attended one of the schools you would recognize from background info on presidential candidates.

Previous to enrolling there, she had been a student in your standard public school, and was an excellent student. But when she had a chance to sit in the same classrooms as the future leaders of the country, she saw more than just who was in the seat next to her. She noticed how different the entire approach to the students was, how they were viewed and, consequently, what they were taught. Most significantly, they were already assumed to be smart enough to lead, so their training — although rigorous in academics — was interwoven constantly with the other vital aspects of life in that circle of rare air. They were being groomed, fully, to sit at state dinners, campaign, preside over a Fortune 500 board rooms and more.

So what are those characteristics that, say, a Bush child would have prioritized and developed in her that our children and grandchildren would not? Below is a paraphrased list of the 14 leadership secrets of private elite schools, as articulated by education guru John Taylor Gatto.  All are logical, but as you will note, some seem downright diabolical, if you are on the other side. How does it compare to your local government or religious school?

Specifically, at commencement, each graduate will:

  1. Have been taught a perspective on human nature that allows that future leader to get others to do what they want them to do. This includes being well-educated in human lore: history, philosophy, theology, literature and law.
  2. Have been given significant experience and will have developed strong skills in the “active literacies,” that is, writing and public speaking.
  3. Understand the major institutional forms, such as government and the military, including the ideas that drive them. This includes understanding the dynamics and tensions of the separation of powers.
  4. Be perpetually polite and extremely well-mannered. “Civility is the foundation of all future relationships and alliances,” says Gatto.
  5. Have the capability for working independently.
  6. Have been active in sport, “the only way to confer grace on the human presence.” Gatto says participation in sport translates into power and money, and teaches the student to handle physical pain.
  7. Have been taught how to access anyone in power.
  8. Have been rewarded for asking for more responsibility (as part of the curriculum).
  9. Have arrived at a personal standard of behavior and morality.
  10. Know the masters of the fine arts and humanitarians in order to transcend materiality.
  11. Have honed personal powers of observation and recording, i.e. being able to draw what they have seen in order to prove their presence at a place.
  12. Have faced significant difficulties, frequently, to learn how to handle great challenges. “Stand back up!”
  13. Have developed the habit of caution in reasoning before coming to conclusions.
  14. Have experience developing and testing their own ability to make judgments, discriminate value, evaluate predictions and more.

So now you know how your kids and grandchildren will differ from the elites long before they get their first big paychecks. You also see why these students are so far “ahead” and end up in all the desired positions. It isn’t just “who you  know,’ unless that’s part of your curriculum (as it is here).

What you may not know is that since 1913, when John D. Rockefeller established the General Education Board — a “philanthropy” developed specifically to influence public school curriculum and teaching — these concepts have not been allowed in most schools. The General Education Board specifically stated that the purpose of schools was to train workers for 20th century industrial jobs. A hundred years later we have the same thing happening in Common Core, where the entire purpose is to train children to become part of a “21st century workforce.” In other words, you are the worker bees.

There you are. Good luck getting these characteristics into any schools today, for “regular people,” though you might try with a private school.Certainly you can add them to your home life whenever possible, and take advantage of the resources you do have around you. Don’t give up. You never know what circumstances your children may find themselves in, and history loves the unknown stranger who arrives on the scene with all the requisite gifts. Someone who is a humble member of society.

One more thing: this is just high school …. college is where the real magic happens.
